First Picking

      Today was the first picking of the green beans.  Green beans bring past memories to life and hope for lots of future garden pickings!


     

The best bean green in the world

First there's a way to early picking, just hoping for more....  Then the first tastes.....  Mmmmm.  The best green bean in the world happens with the first almost full size early picking.  It almost is too early.  It comes when there are not even enough for a single dinner.  So here's to the best green bean in the world.  It will only reappear next year about the same year!!!


        Then there's the first fixing that happens with early red potatoes. It's the recipe of green beans and red potaotes the way that Bambi fixed them.  Bambi is my maternal grandma who was a fantastic loving funny cook!!

         June 3rd, Aunt Jan and Dan came to visit mom and Marv for the Delia high school reunion.  As I was leaving work, the sun was setting and the full moon was rising.  I saw they called and were fishing east of the casino on 150th.  By the time I joined them, the Sumner Girls were crossing the gate with their chairs.  The men folk were still fishing.  We set up our chairs in the gravel road and, as uncle Marvin Porter would say, 'Shoot the Shit'!  Giggle, giggle, and occasionally, the "oh, really?!"   Then men folk joined and set up their chairs in the road by us.  This time, Aunt Jan said, "Do you remember how mom used to make green beans and red potatoes?"  I need to get that recipe!
